God’s Shelter
I want to remind you of something that you probably know already, but may have forgotten. Life can be a little scary at times. Every day we venture out into a world full of pitfalls and surprises of all kinds. Sometimes it feels like trouble is just hiding around the corner, waiting to sneak up on us like a teenager playing a not-so-funny joke.
You see, life is full of challenging moments where we must make decisions quickly, and if we don’t make the right one, then we still have to deal with the consequences whatever they may be. And if we’re honest, sometimes in life the very thing that gives us the most fear is facing the consequences of our decisions and our actions.
So how do we respond to those kinds of fears? How do we navigate the hard moments of our lives? How do we respond when faced with experiences and the hidden dangers of life?
Fortunately, for us, God’s word contains help and hope for the fears we face—the fears that are just a real part of our lives.
There’s a passage that talks about the protection God offers to those who follow Him and are connected to him in relationship. It says Psalm 91: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” The passage goes on to say a little later in that verse that God is the refuge and the place for trust. “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” And then it says,“Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.”
All of that passage simply shares is that we don’t need to be afraid of what our lives bring to our doorsteps—We don’t need to be afraid of the challenges of life; no matter how scary they seem to be. The response that we should have instead, is to take refuge or safety in a relationship with God and to have confidence that he will protect us from even the craziest moments of life.
God is who we’re supposed to turn to in our most fearful moments. Because He can provide help—the help that we need. We don’t have to be afraid because God’s promises give us help and Hope.
